Further Proof of the Alkaline Diet’s Benefits

Alkaline Diet Proof

The alkaline diet has been 100% proven to be real, a benefit to our health.

The scientific and research community has been proving it over and over for decades. In fact, now, to them, it’s simply widely accepted. It’s a fact.

To us non-scientists, the alkaline diet just makes sense, intuitively.

When you look at the high-alkaline foods (leafy greens, vegetables, salads, low-sugar fruits, oily fish, nuts, seeds etc)…

And then look at the high-ACID foods (sugar, yeast, trans-fats, refined foods, fast foods, junk foods)…

It’s not hard to see how it can be of benefit.

And yet so called ‘experts’ in health mags (who actually don’t understand it), and your local doctor (who has never studied nutrition) feel it’s a fair thing to say that it’s all a load of baloney.

Nutrition has long been known to strongly influence acid-base balance.” — European Journal of Nutrition, Remer, T; 2001 Oct; [Reference]

I’ve posted a lot of scientific proof of the various elements of the alkaline diet on this site for years, but today I am posting a selection of the evidence that proves the alkaline diet as a whole.

This is, of course, not an exhaustive list, this is just a collection of articles I happened to have in a folder I came across when looking for something else (an article on mitochondria in case you’re curious).

But first…

It’s Not About CHANGING Your pH

The aim of the alkaline diet is NOT to try and raise the pH of the blood. Yes, that’s right. The aim of the alkaline diet is NOT to try and raise the pH of the blood.

The body HAS to keep the pH of the blood at pH 7.365 and the whole purpose of the alkaline diet is to prevent the body from having to do the regulating!

This is the biggest misconception that so-called experts have, who are so quick to criticise the alkaline diet. When the truth is, they simply haven’t done their research and are making themselves look like idiots.

The REAL Way an Acidic Diet Damages the Body

Your doctor and friend are absolutely right, in that the body will do whatever it takes to regulate your blood pH (and the pH of other cellular fluids). But the constant need to do this regulating is what causes the massive problems with an overly acidic diet and lifestyle.

By living and eating alkaline, we relieve the body of this need to regulate and thus the body thrives.

Of course, it helps (and is surely no coincidence) that all of the alkaline foods are also nutrient-dense, live, fresh, healthy, high-water-content, healthy foods that are full of vitamins, minerals and phytonutritents, antioxidants and more.

When you eat acidic foods consistently, the body gets thrown into turmoil to ensure this homeostasis is maintained and your pH level does not change.

This fact is widely accepted in the scientific research community. All of the research shows that the alkaline diet is valid and beneficial, and supports the body in maintaining this balance.

The foods we eat DO impact our body’s ability to maintain the acid/alkaline balance, the pH of 7.365 of our blood and other extracellular fluids, that HAS to be maintained for us to stay alive.

And when we maintain this pH with no stress to the body we thrive.

Takeaway Point: the alkaline diet is not about CHANGING your pH, it’s about helping the body to MAINTAIN it!

So with that cleared up…

Scientific Literature Proving the Alkaline Diet”

Listed below are just a few quotes from just a few of the published research that exists in the scientific community.

It is proven over and over and over again that a diet rich in alkaline-forming, antioxidant-rich foods is hugely beneficial to human health, is preventative against many if not all of the most common causes of diseases, and promotes a healthy body.

Within this research it’s also made clear that a diet high in acid-load foods (dairy, animal protein, sugar, nutrient-poor foods) causes the exact opposite.

Takeaway Quote: “Nutrition has long been known to strongly influence acid-base balance.”

Research Title: The Role of Mitochondria in Cancer and Other Chronic Diseases:

Takeaway Quote: “The evidence appears to be strong that an alkaline diet high in antioxidants would help prevent chronic degenerative disease and cancer, and lead to a better quality of life.”

Published in: Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine

Research Title: A higher alkaline dietary load is associated with greater indexes of skeletal muscle mass in women:

Takeaway Quote: “This study found a more alkaline diet was positively associated with muscle mass in women suggesting a role for dietary acid–base load in muscle loss.”

Research Title: Influence of diet on acid-base balance:

Takeaway Quote: “It is well established that diet and certain food components have a clear impact on acid-base balance.

For adults, the following factors are involved: 1) the chemical composition of foods (i.e., their content of protein, chloride, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium), 2) the different intestinal absorption rates of the relevant nutrients, 3) the metabolic generation of sulfate from sulfur-containing amino acids, 4) the grade of dissociation of phosphorus at the physiologic pH of 7.4, and 5) the ionic valence of calcium and magnesium.”

Research Title: Diet, evolution and aging–the pathophysiologic effects of the post-agricultural inversion of the potassium-to-sodium and base-to-chloride ratios in the human diet:

Takeaway Quote: “Any level of acidosis may be unacceptable from an evolutionarily perspective, and indeed, that a low-grade metabolic alkalosis may be the optimal acid-base state for humans.”
