Alkaline Recipe #193 Chilli Chai Hot Chocolate

chocolate cacao chai tea recipe

Holy moly this tea is a WINNER. I’ve been working on this one for a while and the addition of a very special ingredient has taken it from an 8 out of 10 to an off the charts out of 10!

I love every flavour in this tea – it’s smooth, soothing and delicious.

And of course, it’s packed FULL of nourishing nutrients from the coconut oil, cacao, maca, chili, cardamon, cinnamon, ginger and that special ingredient…

It’s basically an outrageously delicious hot chocolate, but healthy, alkaline and energizing.

Alkaline Chilli Chai Hot Chocolate

Serves 2

Ingredients

450ml coconut or almond milk
1 tbsp almond butter (note this is the secret ingredient, makes it SO creamy!)
2 tbsp organic cacao powder
1 inch of root ginger sliced
1 tsp cardamon powder
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 red chilli (adjust to preference of heat)
1 tbsp coconut oil or MCT oil

Instructions

  1. Start by slicing the ginger, and then add the ginger, milk, cacao, almond butter, spices and oil to a saucepan
  2. Simmer for 5-10 minutes and then transfer to a blender and blend on high speed until smooth and a froth has formed
  3. Sprinkle with cinnamon, serve and enjoy!

This is a fantastic one in the colder months…but can also be enjoyed on ice in summer too!

    Hi,

Much as I enjoy your info and recipes, must point out that Chai or chaya IS tea, a term in Hindi. To say “chai tea” is redundant. Unfortunately many people make this mistake:-(

    Cheers,

You have your Base camp membership advertised for $49 in one place with $19 monthly thereafter and in another place for $49 the first month and $49 thereafter/mo………….which is the correct price?

Also, when I tried to purchase it, your site said my credit card was not supported yet you had a picture of the Discover card below……..which is correct????

As long as I’m at it, I would suggest that you change your recipe measures to cups and ounces for Americans like myself who do not think in grams and mls.

We are enjoying the recipes from your website……very tasty…thank you!

The recipe looks great! Is raw cacao powder alkaline or acidic? I have been wondering this and have found some conflicting info in my searches. Thanks!

    • Quim Reply

I think cacao is acidic, but the other products are alkaline. So, the global balance is alkaline.

      • ross Reply

The Cacao is very mildly acidic, but as you’ve said, the overall effect is high alkaline 🙂

    • ross Reply

      Hi Cathryn

It’s very mildly acidic, but in the grand scheme of things it’s totally fine to have a few times per week and in this drink it’s overwhelmed by the alkalinity of the other ingredients 🙂

Thanks, Ross, for this recipe – love hot cocoa.
Was just wondering, I recently joined your boot camp and was hoping to get your recipe book, etc., that was part of the plan? How can I do that? I live in the UK if that’s a postage concern.
Thanks again, and congratulations on your new little one.

This sounds great, but what about the significant calories. I can just hear you say everything in moderation!

    • ross Reply

      Hey

The calories in this drink are mostly from healthy fats. Let me know what your concern is with the calories and I can give you a more detailed answer. If its a concern over weight gain then don’t worry about that. The healthy fats in this drink will massively increase your metabolism and your body’s ability to mobilise and burn any excess fat in your body.

Is this book paperback or hardback? And what is the exact cost?

  10. Cecily Pearce Reply

Hello! I’d like to buy all these but I just want to check are they hard copies or e books? I really don’t like reading loads of stuff from a screen, I don’t think I’ll be successful that way. There is no mention of delivery address in the buy section so I fear it’s an e book. Let me know!
    I’m keen!!!

Also other question.. I’m a breast feeding mum and I’m too thin as it is, don’t want to lose weight but I do want to be healthier and get some energy running through me.. any parts of the diet I should avoid or supplement so I don’t lose weight?

    • Nancy D Reply

For those who are asking this does come in hard copy. I just got his books and they are great. He will respond to you with the info needed.

        Thanks Nancy

any thoughts on my question above about breast feeding and not wanting to lose weight as I see many people say they have lost lbs. Because I’m still breast feeding I need alot of calories, have already lost weight as he’s sucking it all out of me!

I have to go alkaline, health issues, but my family live acidic.
4 Tired adults in a house, when they get home they DRINK.
Ive learned that habbit too, relax with wine..
    The biggest temptation is wine/champagne/whiskey

What is the most alkaline drink .. wine or whiskey?

    • ross Reply

Ha, really neither. I’d love to say there is an alkaline alcohol but there really isn’t. My best advice would be to transition away from that. If that’s not realistic in your house I’d say focus on limiting the damage done by the alcohol by protecting the liver, kidneys and following an anti-inflammatory diet with it. If you search my site you’ll find my liver and kidney guides and juice recipes to help with this.
