Your Best Ever Body: Day 5

Day 5: Your Best Ever BodySo we have been through breakfast, lunch and dinner – so you might be thinking ‘what’s left?’. Well, I can tell thee – what’s left is probably the single biggest cause of all diet failures…

SNACKS!

We all get a snack-attack from time to time, no matter how well we plan our meals and how healthily we eat. So when hunger strikes what do you reach for?

Personally, I think Ian gives a mixed bag of good and suspect advice here (surprise, surprise – sorry Ian, I seem to have said that every day). I am worried about the amount he recommends fruit, without giving warning to the high sugar content of most fruits and yet again I am concerned about the fact that the image they have chosen for this day is of a fruit salad covered in cream!!!

However, he does make some awesome points including focusing on those foods that are most likely to be satisfying, but still healthy and also to ensure that you consume a good deal of raw, fresh alkaline forming foods and avoid acid-forming foods!

Good Points from Day 5:

Big leafy salad. Have as much as you like, and include plenty of colourful vegetables such as peppers, or watercress …but don’t pile on a creamy dressing.

Crudit̩s. Carrot and cucumber sticks are satisfying and provide vitamins and nutrients. Celery is excellent: it has a slight negative calorie count Рyou expend more calories eating it than it contains.

Seeds. A high-protein, low-carbohydrate, low-calorie snack, with benefits to skin, hair and nails. Buy a mix that contains a blend of seeds for maximum nutritional benefit. Sunflower seeds, for example, are a perfect food…Flax seeds are rich in EFAs and minerals.

Avoid

Snack bars – often loaded with sugar;

Avoid Acid-forming foods. Coffee, biscuits, crisps and cakes are acid-forming, but our bodies are alkaline. The body creates fat cells to carry away acidic toxins, but this can mean weight gain and cellulite. Excess acid can also inhibit the body’s ability to regenerate cells, which can leave you feeling tired and looking old. (editor – hooray! Well said Ian!)

Finally, Ian leaves us with some fairly decent juice recipes and to make sure I start my day with a smile on my face details on my most favourite man subject, ‘Eating for Perfect Skin’.

    Snacks are one of the hardest things to avoid with all the candy, sweets, and other foods in my house. After reading this article I’m starting to make healthy snacks that I can eat really quick.
