Basil in Your Green Drink…Sweet!

basil

Freshly juiced, green vegetables – the cornerstone of any alkaline diet a.k.a. green drink. Now, to avoid confusion, there are two styles of green drink the one you mix up from powder and the one you juice yourself. I am talking here about the home made, fresh juice.

I love it.

My girlfriend has to hold her nose while she gulps it down as quick as possible.

It’s just the way it is.

I am always of the opinion that if you eat or drink something healthy enough times then your taste buds will adapt. I know mine have. I literally cannot stand most fizzy drinks now – they just taste sooo sickly sweet. And I am sure my girlfriends tastebuds will change soon too.

Usually in this interim period – when you want the greens, but can’t handle the greens – I suggest some carrot or half and apple to sweeten things up. BUT NO MORE – I have an EVEN BETTER solution!

This weekend, while I was casually making us a mid-morning green drink I grabbed our herb pot to throw in some parsley (great antioxidant and full of vitamin K, C and A) and I just thought, ‘hmmm, basil’. Now normally, I don’t like to add extra taste surprises into my girlfriend’s green drink because she has a hard time with it as it is – but hey, I must have been feeling like a bit of a maverick.

So in went a good handful of basil – and whaddayaknow. It made the green drink taste really nice, just sweet enough and better than ever.

My girlfriend didn’t even have to hold her nose!

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Even if it may taste awful, if its effects are visible, it is worth trying. Especially because the author gives suggestions about how to improve its taste. Once again, nature proves to be able to help us find ways of feeling better.
