Recipe: Alkaline Green Juice for Gout

This week’s recipe is my green juice remedy for gout.  Gout is one of the most straightforward and classic symptoms of an over-acid diet.  Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis that occurs when there is a buildup of uric acid in the body. Uric acid is a waste product that is normally excreted by the kidneys. However, when there is too much uric acid in the body, it can form crystals in the joints, causing pain and inflammation.

Uric acid is one of seven acids that are produced in the body (alongside carbonic, hydrochloric, lactic, citric, amino, and fatty) and is one that can easily get out of control with severe effects.

Living alkaline reduces the buildup of uric acid in the body and helps to remove and reverse the symptoms of gout, really quite quickly, when the diet is adapted and this is a great juice for healing gout.

Alkaline-forming foods have a neutralizing effect on uric acid, helping to prevent the formation of uric acid crystals in the joints, while also reducing inflammation in the body, which can help to ease the pain and swelling associated with gout.

You will notice no fruit in this juice.

While fruit doesn’t need to be avoided entirely (see my guide to alkaline fruits here), juiced fruit, dried fruit, and concentrated fruits all dump too much fructose into the body, which HAS to be avoided if you want to remove gout.

Added fructose also has to be removed from the diet as much as possible too.

Most of the fructose we get is from processed foods and sweetened beverages in the form of high fructose corn syrup.

How does fructose cause gout?

When we consume fructose, it is metabolized by the liver, which produces uric acid as a byproduct. If the body produces too much uric acid or is unable to excrete it effectively, the uric acid can build up in the body and form crystals in the joints, leading to gout.

In addition to contributing to the production of uric acid, a diet high in fructose can also lead to insulin resistance and an increase in insulin levels. Insulin resistance can cause the kidneys to retain more uric acid, and high insulin levels can inhibit the excretion of uric acid by the kidneys, both of which can contribute to the development of gout.

Furthermore, a diet high in fructose is often associated with other dietary factors that can contribute to gout, such as a high intake of purines (found in meat, seafood, and some vegetables) and a low intake of fiber (which can help to promote the excretion of uric acid).

How this alkaline, green juice remedy for gout helps

This green juice recipe contains ingredients that are beneficial for removing uric acid, including cucumber, celery, and beetroot.

These vegetables are low in purine, which can help to reduce the level of uric acid in the body. Parsley and cilantro are also known for their detoxifying properties, which can help to remove toxins from the body, including uric acid.

The lemon juice provides vitamin C, which can help to dissolve uric acid and prevent the formation of urate crystals. The ginger and cayenne pepper can also help to reduce inflammation and improve circulation, which can aid in the removal of uric acid.
