Had a Slip Up? Stop Starting Over

What to do when you have a slip up

Slip Up? Stop Starting Over

Perfection is what makes most people fail.

In this video, Ross Bridgeford explains why aiming for perfection increases the risk of slipping up, and shares a simple 3-step reset that stops one bad meal turning into a bad week.

Living alkaline does not require perfection. It requires structure. When you allow flexibility inside a structured framework, slip ups stop turning into six months of starting over.

0:00 The Massive Missing Piece

The massive missing piece is that people are aiming for perfection. The number one rule in all of my programs is we never need to aim for perfection.

0:38 Stop Aiming for Perfection

Food is a critical part of who we are as a species. It is pleasure, connection, and culture. It transcends beyond just physically eating it.

We cannot throw that emotional connection out. It is part of the fabric of who we are.

If you can eat perfectly alkaline meals that you love and enjoy, fantastic. That is what we are aiming for. But you should never feel like you have to change everything, or change who you are, to be healthy.

1:42 Why Cheat Meals Are Part of the Journey

Blowouts are part of the journey. Treat meals, date nights, brunch with friends, moments with family, those indulgent occasions are normal.

In many ways, they are a critical component of the program because they keep food joyful and sustainable.

2:58 The Real Danger Is the Spiral

The line we are dancing along is not letting a cheat meal turn into six months.

When a treat is allowed, accepted, and part of the framework, the risk of it becoming a long spiral diminishes greatly.

3:25 The 3 Step Reset Process

If you slip up and it was not planned, there is a simple reset process. The goal is to stop one moment turning into a week or a month.

3:48 Step 1: Restart Immediately

Do not fall into the trap of “today is ruined, I will start again tomorrow,” or “I will start again Monday.”

There is no reason not to restart immediately.

4:45 Step 2: Remove Guilt, Add Awareness

Become conscious of what happened. Take a moment. Be grateful for what you just ate. Enjoy it, savor it, and then draw a line under it.

Then reflect on the circumstances that led to the slip up.

Was it logistical, like being out and hungry with no snacks and low blood sugar? Or was it emotional, like stress, anxiety, fatigue, or feeling down?

Notice the patterns and think about what you will do differently next time. Visualize that.

6:30 Step 3: Take Immediate Action

Do something immediately in the right direction to squash the spiral.

It can be simple. A short walk, a glass of water, a stretch, a few minutes of breathing, making a juice, writing out your goals, anything.

Then resolve in that moment: we are back on track.

7:40 Stay in the Game

Allowing treat meals as part of the framework removes most of the risk.

And when you use the reset process, you stop slip ups turning into long setbacks.

The goal is not never having bread. The goal is never letting bread turn into six months.
