What is Glutathione, How Does It Work & Where Can I Get It?!

Glutathione is a very interesting, very small molecule that’s [produced by the body and] found in every cell,” says Gustavo Bounous, MD, director of research and development at Immunotec and a retired professor of surgery at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. “It’s the (body’s) most important antioxidant because it’s within the cell.”

It does occur naturally in many foods and while people who eat a diet high in fresh, organic fruit & veg will probably get enough – most of us don’t – and deficiencies in glutathione can be highly damaging. 90% of Australians, for instance (who are known to be a pretty healthy bunch), don’t get their five-a-day.

It is a tripeptide composed of glutamic, cysteine and glycine. Glutathione is found in all cells in the body, including the bile, the epithelial lining fluid of the lungs, and – at much smaller concentrations – in the blood.

It is the smallest intracellular non-protein thiol (molecule containing an S_H or sulfhydryl group) molecule in the cells. This characteristic emphasizes its potent antioxidant action and supports a multifaceted thiol exchange system, which regulates cell activity.

As mentioned above, glutathione, along with a wide range of other nutrients and antioxidants can be found in fresh fruits and vegetables.   • Sweet Potato: had double the beta-carotene of carrots
  • Papaya: had 15 times more beta-cryptoxanthin than oranges and way less sugar)

The Bottom Line on Antioxidants Is This…

We all KNOW we need to get plenty of antioxidants in our diet, the same as we need to make sure we get plenty of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids (such as omega 3).     Ross, My son was diagnose with colon cancer IV almost 2 years ago he is now 45 years old he stoped using chemo 2 weeks ago because is not working any more he was hospitalize 1 week ago for pain he is home now under hospice care so they can control his pain I heard and read that his body is in a very acidic level and thats why the cancer is spreading and that is the reason for pain. Can you recomend what to start him with? He eats very little and has lost a lot of weight and his under a lot of heavy pain medication. As a mother I cannot give up, the doctor from hospice told him yesterday that if he wants to eat doughnuts all day and a cheese burger with bacon to go head I guess they want to finish him up faster.
    I would like to hear from you ASAP we are running out of time here.
